This website is built from software called DotNetNuke. It is a CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM or CMS software. CMS allows non-technical people to manage a website. That means that multiple people can safely update the website, not just a single 'webmaster' with specialized software.
That means that the training committee can update the training page, themselves, whenever they need to. So, for example, if a class is cancelled, the training committee does not need to contact the webmaster to post the update.
Additionally, many tasks on the website can now be automated. For example, on the main page where we list upcoming events, we enter a start and end date for them to be displayed. Then, the day after an event, the page is automatically updated and the past event(s) are not displayed.
Another feature is that we can have content only available to authenticated users. So that means we can make it easy for you (if you are a Scoutmaster) to get a list of merit badge counselors without having everybody's personal information out in the open.
